The most impactful change comes when we join forces. Through co-creation, we develop solutions that make technology more accessible, efficient and transformative.
Through network apification, we drive solutions that not only transform communications, but inspire progress and open up new opportunities. Together, we create solutions that transform industries and connect the world.
To lead change, we are taking a step forward in digital innovation with Open Gateway. This transformation turns our network into an open, collaborative platform. In this way, we open up a new generation of safer and more sustainable digital services to improve people’s lives.

Because real progress happens when we share a vision and work together, Telefónica Open Gateway is making steady progress and its impact is already transforming the digital ecosystem. Now, companies and developers have the opportunity to take advantage of open and democratised access to telco capabilities.
What is Open Gateway?
Open Gateway is a global telco industry initiative, led by the GSMA, which aims to transform communications networks into programmable platforms, so that creators of digital experiences can access network capabilities in a standardised, intuitive and interoperable way.
These capabilities are exposed through global and standardised APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) under the CAMARA framework, the open source project led by the Linux Foundation in collaboration with the GSMA, and with TM Forum as a key partner on the road to interoperability.
Open Gateway is already present in 28 markets with 69 mobile operators worldwide, representing 280 mobile networks and over 75% of global connections.
As a new development, the initiative presents the creation of ADUNA, a new company led by Ericsson, with 13 network operators as members, including Telefónica. It aims to bring more telecoms operators on board, drive global collaboration to accelerate innovation, facilitate the deployment of APIs in different countries worldwide, and monetise networks in new digital businesses.
Who benefits from Open Gateway?
Thanks to Open Gateway, the telco industry plays a crucial role as an enabler in building new digital services. This represents a significant benefit for the entire digital ecosystem:

Companies and start-ups, creating new market opportunities and enabling them to improve the quality of their products and service offerings, regardless of their sector.

Developers, displaying all the capabilities of the network to make application development more agile, simpler, and of higher quality.

End-users, offering them new digital services and improving existing ones with advanced functionalities, enhancing their experience.
How do we do Open Gateway at Telefónica?
Thanks to Telefónica Kernel, our API platform that facilitates the development of digital products and services in the countries where we operate, and our programmable networks, we unlock our capabilities faster, more efficiently, and based on solid values: privacy, security, and sustainability. This ensures our customers have full control over their data, while also optimising network usage to reduce resource consumption.
In collaboration with AWS and Microsoft Azure, we provide developers with our capabilities directly within their working environments. We do this through standardized, automated APIs, in real-time, and with just a single line of code. We currently have a portfolio of 11 APIs, several of which are commercially available in the countries where we operate, enabling us to configure a cross-industry solution offering with aggregators Infobip Vonage, Digital Virgo, Glide, JT Global, TMT, IdLayr, Twilio, and Cellere, and with integrators Tecalis, Deloitte, and NTT Data.
Our leadership role as market champions in Spain and Brazil allows us to coordinate telecom activities in each country and jointly launch multi-telco API proposals. This way, we drive the ecosystem forward, ensuring the adoption and expansion of Open Gateway.
Currently, we are present in Spain, Brazil and Germany with different multi-telco network APIs focused on anti-fraud services.
