Solutions for the green transition
Our networks and our digital solutions are powerful enablers of the green transition. As well as reducing our emissions to achieve net zero status by 2040, we help other companies reduce their carbon footprint.
- Own operations: between 2015 and 2024, Telefónica reduced its energy consumption by 7.9%, while data traffic increased 8.3 times Our total CO2 emissions decreased by 52% in that period.
- Low-carbon economy: Emissions in all sectors can be cut by up to 15% through technologies such as fibre, 5G, IoT and AI. This figure would rise to 35% by 2030 if we can also change people’s habits.
Thanks to our Eco Smart services, in 2024 we helped our customers avoid the emission of 17.4 million tonnes of CO2.
Solutions for everyone
We leverage our capabilities to provide widespread coverage with the best technology. Our terrestrial network has been extended via satellite-based connectivity services in order to expand our reach further.
- Fibre and 5G: we have 74% 5G coverage in our four main markets. We provide the largest ultra broadband (UBB) coverage outside China and by 2026 we will achieve a total of 106 million premises reached by fibre.
- Digital skills: our Telefónica Tech professionals hold more than 5,000 certifications in third-party technologies. In addition, Fundación Telefónica provides training to over 1 million people each year to improve their digital literacy and enhance their employability.
