Telefónica is, according to the first Social Benchmark 2024 ranking conducted by the World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA), the most socially responsible technology company, out of a total of 173, in relation to respect for human rights, the promotion of decent work and ethical conduct.
The company, which is among the top 20 companies worldwide, scored 14 points, the highest score being 15.5 out of a maximum of 20, taking into account the 18 social indicators measured and on a base of 2,000 companies.
The Social Ranking represents the social expectations that companies must meet in order to contribute to a transformation that leaves no one behind. The WBA methodology consists of three areas of measurement: respect for human rights; the promotion of decent work; and ethical conduct in areas such as lobbying and taxation. “Together, these three areas of responsible business conduct are crucial to enabling social transformation,” says the WBA. However, the WBA notes that only 10% of companies “pass the halfway mark”.
Achieving this position is an encouragement for Telefónica in its aim to continue improving and fulfilling its corporate purpose of ‘Making our world more humane by connecting people’s lives’, as one of its main contributions to the SDGs.

Telefónica has been committed to sustainability for two decades, and all its actions revolve around the UN SDGs, as is also reflected in its sustainable financing framework, verified by Sustainalytics.
