Telefónica was today the Guest of Honor at the Madrid Stock Exchange on the same day that marks the 100th anniversary of its  foundation as a company, which took place on April 19, 1924. On the occasion of this anniversary, its Chairman, José María Álvarez-Pallete, performed the traditional ringing of the bell in this tribute to a centenary company that has been listed since its beginnings.

In the presence of the CEO of BME, Javier Hernani, and 150 guests from the economic and stock market spheres, Álvarez-Pallete pointed out that “the constant support of our shareholders has been one of the fundamental pillars in the evolution and success of Telefónica. Owning “Telefónicas” is part of the heritage of many Spanish families, and we feel deeply privileged to have this responsibility. Every strategy, every decision we have made, has been with the objective of creating value for our shareholders. Your trust is the reason for our commitment”.

Javier Hernani highlighted that “Telefónica is today one of the largest and most international companies, largely thanks to the financing it has obtained on the stock market. During this time, the company has multiplied its market value by 165 times, with operations in 12 countries, employs 1.3 million people, directly and indirectly, and generates an impact of 49 billion euros in terms of GDP”.

The event ended with the presentation of a commemorative plaque to Telefónica by BME.
