Telefónica reports the first case of Covid-19 in an employee at the Aravaca office

Telefónica today received notification of the first confirmed case of Covid-19 coronavirus in an employee at the Aravaca (Madrid) office

Madrid, 4 March 2020 – Telefónica today received notification of the first confirmed case of Covid-19 coronavirus in an employee at the Aravaca (Madrid) office. This employee is hospitalised and in stable condition. The employee’s last day in the office was February 25th, and was admitted to a Madrid hospital on March 1. On March 4, the health authorities confirmed that it is a case of Covid-19 coronavirus.

Following the recommendations of the health authorities and in application of the company’s protocol, all co-workers that had close contact with this employee have been asked to work from  home and check for symptoms (at present, nine days after the last contact with their colleague, all of them are still asymptomatic).

In addition, and following the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Labour, Telefónica has strongly recommended that employees at the Aravaca office that are considered to be at risk (pregnant women, people with immune deficiency and chronic respiratory problems) work from home. 

In addition, all additional health and hygiene measures will be adopted immediately throughout the Aravaca work centre.

The services provided from this centre continue to be carried out normally.

Telefónica, which is in permanent coordination with the health authorities, wishes this employee a speedy recovery.

The company has also activated a specific information space in the Occupational Health section of the employee Intranet with information about the Covid-19 coronavirus.
