Madrid, 22nd January 2020. Telefónica has been included in the new Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI), which distinguishes companies committed to gender equality.

This edition’s index includes 325 companies from 50 industries in 42 countries, compared to 230 companies from 10 industries last year, with a market capitalization of 12 billion dollars.

According to Bloomberg, Telefónica stands out in terms of its diversity and inclusion policies, which cover the selection processes taking into account the representation of both genders, its training in unconscious biases for managers and the inclusion of diversity variables in the performance objectives for its workforce.

The entity also highlights the brand’s role in breaking down gender barriers by helping girls to be the leaders of the future in the technological field, cooperating with initiatives such as Inspiring Girls and Technovation. Similarly, Bloomberg positively highlights Telefónica’s extension of its principles of equality to the supply chain.

Among Telefónica’s plans to promote internal female talent, it is worth to highlight the “Women in Leadership” program. Also, women representation in the company’s Board of Directors reaches 30%.

“The 325 companies included in the 2020 GEI have demonstrated their commitment to transparency”, stated Bloomberg chairman, Peter T. Grauer, for whom “making data and company practices available to the public is an important first step towards supporting global equality”.
