How long have you been at Telefónica and how would you rate your time here?
I started at Telefónica as an intern in 2012, joining the company as an employee after the Talentum grant in September 13. So I have just completed 11 years with the company. Compared to the 100 that it is, it sounds a bit short. But time flies by… I feel like I’m on the phone and I’m happy to be part of this great company. I have had the opportunity to change roles and to continue learning in different areas, to surround myself with great professionals and to experience great milestones.
Is there any project at Telefónica that you are particularly satisfied with?
Without a doubt, the Talentum programme. I started my career as a data analyst in the face-to-face channel, commercial and BI monitoring in which I participated in very interesting projects such as the launch of FUSIÓN, or the distribution and modernisation of shops, new information repositories and the first reports in PowerBI… But for 7 years my big project has been Talentum, which I have helped to evolve and grow. From a very manual and ‘paper-based’ start to the digitisation of the massive process of which I am particularly proud. Above all, for working with great people who, year after year, bring the best young talent into the company.
What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society?
Everything. As the mission statement says, connecting people’s lives and I couldn’t agree more. From the launch of the telephone to the possibility that in a pandemic people could still see each other through a screen. It has helped people and businesses to evolve, being a social and economic benchmark in Spain and an example of a company that knows how to adapt and grow. Thanks to this, it has been around for 100 years and I am convinced that it will live on for many more thanks to the people who make it up.
Where do you see Telefónica in the future?
I can see it in any sector, Telefónica doesn’t just sell communications and IT. It is capable of knowing where we need to be, what we need to invest in and how we need to evolve. From selling mobile handsets or prepaid cards in white and brown line shops to being pioneers in massive data analysis, extracting value from metadata and being at the forefront of technology. I see it revolutionising the sector… Who would have thought that pay TV would become a regular feature in homes? But what I like most is that it relies on a great team of people, and believes in its growth and reskilling.
Could you live without a mobile phone?
Not really, I bought an Apple watch to stop looking at my phone when I’m with my kids, but I can’t leave the house without a phone. I feel naked the day I forget it, I go out without my wallet, but not without my mobile phone. It’s healthy to disconnect from technology, but it’s amazing what we can do with it and what we will achieve with AI.
Help us solve one of humanity’s great enigmas: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?
The best omelette is my mother-in-law’s, with a touch of onion and eggs from the chickens in the field.
