What’s better than connecting? #ConnectingWithPride

At Telefónica we celebrate International LGBT+ Pride Day by reinforcing our commitment to diversity and inclusion, and ensuring a safe and trustworthy space where everyone who works at the company feels fully integrated regardless of their orientation, sexual identity or gender expression. Because each person brings unique value, and in our Centenary year, pride is multiplied.

In the week that hosts this celebration, we subscribe to our commitment to diversity in all the societies in which we are present, in line with our goal of making our world more humane by proudly connecting people’s lives. And all of this, in a scenario in which we are aware that there is still much to be done, and that at Telefónica diversity, in any of its manifestations, is pride, growth and talent. Because working in diverse teams multiplies professional development and innovation within the organisation, boosting our results.

Our global milestones in LGBT+ diversity in the past year

  • In Latin America, through our Sostener network, we promoted six awareness-raising actions throughout the year, and we continued to be recognised by the PAR Ranking as the best company in the sector for our practices in closing gaps. In addition, in Chile and Colombia, we are part of the Ranking of Inclusive Companies.
  • In Spain, our employee group set up its own structure and organised, together with REDI, the largest meeting of LGBT+ affinity groups in the country: REDI to Connect Employees.
  • We also continued our commitment to the integration of transgender people in the workplace, and in addition to participating in FELGTB’s YesWeTrans project, we organised employability workshops and specific awareness-raising sessions on this reality.
  • In Brazil, 8% of our employees have voluntarily declared themselves as LGBT+. In addition, we exceeded our target of 100 trans employees by 2023, reaching 111 with a target of 125 this year; and we funded 100% of our trans employees’ training.
  • In the UK, VMO2 was recognised as one of the 100 most LGBT+ inclusive employers by Stonewall.
  • We were also recognised by the Financial Times as one of Europe’s most inclusive employers in its Diversity Leaders 2023 ranking; and Forbes World’s Top Companies for Women ranked as one of the world’s most egalitarian companies in terms of gender diversity.
  • In addition, the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index 2023 distinguished Telefónica as one of the companies most committed to gender equality in the world for the sixth consecutive year; and the IBEX Gender Equality Index considered us, for yet another year, as one of the 53 companies with the greatest presence of women in senior management positions; while Great Place to Work was ranked as one of the most inclusive companies in Europe in its Diversity Leaders 2023 ranking; and the IBEX Gender Equality Index ranked us as one of the 53 companies with the greatest presence of women in senior management positions; while Great Place to Work recognised Telefónica Brazil as one of the best companies for women, for professionals over 50 and for LGBT+ people.

In short, and in the year of our Centenary, all these milestones and initiatives demonstrate once again that, at Telefónica, we place people and values at the centre to drive our future and transformation, to grow as a company, and also as a society, based on diversity and inclusion. #ConnectingWithPride
