How long have you been at Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?
I’ve been at Telefónica since September 2021, before that I spent a year and a half between the internship and the scholarship. It’s been almost 5 years now, but it still seems like yesterday when I first entered the Este 3 building and met my colleagues.
During this time in the company I have been in different areas, from more technical to more managerial areas, but always linked to the development of services, first with services related to fixed technology, then with 4G mobile technology and recently with 5G SA technology and Network Slicing functionality. Because Telefónica is a leading company in technology, it offers employees the opportunity to be constantly learning, even if you have been in the same position for a long time.
Is there any project at Telefónica that you are particularly proud or satisfied with?
I think that in all the projects in which I have participated I have learned a lot, thanks also to the good fortune I have had to have extraordinary colleagues. But if I had to choose, I would choose two that are really very interrelated and in which I have had the opportunity to participate as Project Manager.
The first is the project to incorporate 5G SA technology and Network Slicing to the Movistar Intranet service, a service that enables data connectivity from mobile terminals to the client’s IP VPN (Virtual Private Network). It was a big challenge for me due to the number of areas involved and the fact that it was a very new topic. As a result, we have been able to give a new impulse to the traditional Movistar Intranet service, making it the first enterprise service to offer Network Slicing functionalities in the company.
The second project in which I am proud to have participated is Opengateway, because of its relevance both for Telefónica and for the entire telecommunications sector. Especially for having contributed to the development of the QoD Mobile API, as its use will allow users to improve the quality of connectivity in times of congestion. Moreover, it is not only an API that will be marketed to external customers, but will also be used in our internal services, such as the Movistar Intranet 5G SA Service.
What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society?
Telefónica has contributed and continues to contribute a great deal to society, although sometimes we are not aware of it, because thanks to its powerful fixed and mobile network, it offers the possibility of living in a world that was unimaginable years ago, working with people in other parts of the world, making video calls in real time with your loved ones, watching the premiere of a film from your sofa, paying from your mobile phone …. among many others. I think Telefónica is innovation, technology, but it is also talent for all the people who work there and who make this company grow and continue to be an example in the sector.
Where do you see Telefónica in the future?
I see Telefónica much stronger than it is today, with more powerful services, always carrying the banner of innovation and excellence, but without losing sight of the people we work for and with.
Could you live without a mobile phone?
I wish I could answer yes, but I would be lying, in reality I use my mobile phone every day and many times a day, I believe that it has become an essential part of society and that, although its use must be controlled and safe, it brings many benefits and offers us the most important thing, which is to be able to stay connected with our loved ones.
Help us solve one of humanity’s great enigmas: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?
Well, I could eat both, but if I have to choose one, I prefer onion.
