How long have you been at Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?

I arrived at Telefónica in 2018 and joined the Blockchain department of Telefónica Innovación y Desarrollo. For four years, I developed my career around this technology, arriving at Telefónica Tech in 2021. Last year I decided to broaden my knowledge with other technologies and decided to change completely, becoming part of the New Business area, also at Telefónica Tech, where I have been able to learn technologies such as IoT, AI and drones. In these 5 years the assessment is super positive because my work has allowed me not to get bored and to be in a continuous learning process, something that you value when you are a very restless person.

Is there any project at Telefónica that you feel particularly satisfied with or proud of?

I think I am lucky that everything I have done at Telefónica I have been passionate about, from the blockchain product TrustOS, which we have built internally, to the Smart Lighting solution to improve energy efficiency in Smart Cities, with some patents in which I have had the opportunity to participate in between.

I would also like to highlight being able to participate in communities such as #GirlsLoveTech or events such as Telefonica Tech’s Girls Inspire Tech, doing my bit to encourage STEM vocations in girls so that we can have a technological environment with greater female representation, which is one of the challenges we currently face in such a digitised society.

What do you think Telefónica has contributed from birth?

I think the value that Telefónica has contributed to society over all these years is practically incalculable. Things like connecting people by telephone thanks to the telephone operators when it was invented, mobile network infrastructures that allowed us to be able to call anyone wherever we were, the Internet infrastructure that helped us deal with a pandemic much better than we could have expected, and so many other things and technological advances that I could go on for hours.

Even so, we cannot forget all the projects that are carried out for social purposes in which, as a company and as employees, we try to improve the society in which we live with initiatives such as volunteering, the activities that are carried out from the Foundation Space, or the programming campuses such as Escuela 42.

Where do you see Telefónica in the future?

I am sure that in the next 100 years Telefónica will continue to be a leader in the field of telecommunications and a great reference in the technological ecosystem.

We will continue to reinvent ourselves every day, driving the adoption of advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, 6G and technologies that still cross our minds and that will also form part of our DNA. In addition, I believe that cybersecurity will become even more critical, and Telefónica will play an essential role in data protection and online security, as it already does now.

Finally, one thing we will continue to do, as we do now, is that we will continue to focus on the human side of society and create more efficient and environmentally sustainable technology to take care of our planet.

Could you live without a mobile phone?

I think it is very difficult to say no to this question. At our fingertips, through mobile phones and connectivity, we have almost everything at our fingertips. In my case, in fact, I even go through life without a wallet because I pay for everything with my mobile phone. However, I would say that from time to time it is good to be disconnected to reconnect with yourself.

Help us solve one of the great enigmas of humanity: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?

I love this question! Of course with onion (without onion is sacrilege). And I’ll give you more details: it should be slightly curdled so that it can be dipped in bread and the onion should be well poached or caramelised. In fact, this question has made me want to eat my favourite tortilla skewer in a restaurant in Santander, where sometimes I even order it with a layer of tuna and mayonnaise on top…yes, I know, you’re hungry too 😛

Nominate another colleague to appear in this section

Well, the truth is that I would nominate a lot of people, however, I would nominate two of my references, who are also two very inspiring women: Elena Gil Lizasoain and Laura Lacarra Arcos.

In #Thespanishomelettething tag section we interview Telefónica’s employees on a variety of topics, while trying to solve one of humanity’s greatest dilemmas.
