How long have you been with Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?
I have been with Telefónica for 35 years. I have spent a large part of my life here, and my assessment is positive: I have been trained professionally and I have grown as a person. It has been a luxury to work and learn with great professionals, and with some of my colleagues we have even cultivated genuine, long-lasting friendships.
I feel very grateful to have been able to develop my vocation as a trainer. This is a concern that has been with me since childhood. Since the year 2000, I have combined my activity with that of coach trainer. The experience of training has been and continues to be a differential value that allows me to connect with the best of myself and invites me to be in continuous learning.
Is there any project at Telefónica that you feel particularly satisfied with or proud of?
How difficult to answer, there are a few… to get nostalgic: the closure of the emblematic Estel Centre in Barcelona (40,000 m2 I think I remember).
I was in charge of Real Estate and together with my coordinator, Gabriel Rodriguez, after the sale of the building, we had to manage the emptying. It was like watching a film: achievements, team photos and memories were giving way to the future. Many pages of the biography of thousands of Telefónica colleagues had been written in that building.
One of the projects I have been working on for the last two years, and of which I am proud, is to attend to and accompany the TdE Management Secretaries, responding to the training needs of the group. This has allowed me to get to know them closely, to design and give them specific training such as: Communication bridges for elite teams, Leading in times of pandemic, From self-knowledge to personal empowerment, Persuasive written communication, among others …
It is a truly elite team, task-oriented, in search of excellence, adapted to innovation and above all with a great sense of belonging, cooperation and complicity among them. They are true masters with whom it is inspiring to work.
What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society?
I think Telefónica has facilitated and accompanied society from the use of the typewriter to the use of the most modern elements of interpersonal communication. Elderly people in old people’s homes communicating by video call, making a doctor’s appointment from the underground, consulting a geolocation from a remote location or being at sea. Obviously it has also contributed at other technical and infrastructure levels, but I would like to highlight the result: simplicity and ease of communication.
Where do you see Telefónica in the future?
I see it remaining what it is, a mainstay and a benchmark in the world of telecommunications. A company that is committed to innovation and technology, making people’s lives easier. I also think it will surprise us, if we compare the Telefónica of today with that of the 1990s, the transformation was unimaginable.
Could you live without a mobile phone?
Yes, of course I could live without a mobile phone and, in fact, at weekends there are times when I leave it at home. I admit that Google maps is one of my weaknesses when I travel by car or move around the city.
Help us solve one of the great enigmas of humanity: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?
Without a doubt with onion and the one my mother used to make, a flavour that is impossible to forget. However, when it comes to sharing a tablecloth, I prioritise the diner over the ingredient. I don’t find it difficult to adapt. An omelette can be the prelude to a great conversation.
