How long have you been at Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?

I have been here long enough to see incredible changes in the world of technology and communications. It seems like yesterday, only 34 years ago, that I started my journey in this company; I remember working in electromechanical technologies, I was blown away by the arrival of the mobile phone, the disruption of the Internet and today I am excited about cybersecurity and the application of AI aimed at improving personal and business productivity, the latter of which I will tell you more about later.

Is there a project at Telefónica that you are particularly proud or satisfied with?

I am especially proud of the project I have recently collaborated on with KPSport, focused on the development of the innovative geo-positioned V16 beacons. This device, which will soon be an essential element in vehicles in Spain, will revolutionise road safety. In the event of a breakdown, the beacons will send an automatic alert to the DGT indicating the user’s position. Telefónica has played a key role in the implementation of IoT connectivity in the project, ensuring effective and reliable communication between the beacons and the DGT.

What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society?

Telefónica has done much more than connect people during its centenary; it has opened doors to new opportunities and helped bridge digital divides, making technology more human and accessible.

Where do you see Telefónica in the future?

I see Telefónica not just as a telecommunications and IT company, but as a force driving positive changes in society, many of them disruptive, leading the way and transforming the way we interact.

Could you live without a mobile phone?

Without my mobile phone? It would be a big challenge, but I am aware that sometimes it is necessary to disconnect. For me, the mobile phone is both a personal and professional tool; it keeps me informed, safe and connected, so it would be difficult for me to do without a tool that brings me so many good things.

Help us solve one of humanity’s great enigmas: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?

Here is a doctoral thesis. In the culinary debate about the omelette, I don’t take the side of either onion or no onion. For me, the real secret of a great omelette lies in the company and, of course, in a good wine to accompany the conversation and the shared moments. Whether it’s a Ribera del Duero or a Pla de Bages, what really matters is enjoying those little pleasures in life.

Anecdote: As an anecdote, I had told you that I am enthusiastic about the application of artificial intelligence with the aim of boosting productivity. What would you think if I told you that there is a paragraph in this text that has been created entirely by a Generative AI? I am sure you would quickly identify it.
To conclude, I think it would be interesting if both Carlos Marín Escriche and Lluís López Merino could tell us about their professional experience, which I am sure will be as or more interesting than the one expressed here.

In #Thespanishomelettething tag section we interview Telefónica’s employees on a variety of topics, while trying to solve one of humanity’s greatest dilemmas.
