How long have you been with Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?

In November I will be 11 years old…, and it seems like yesterday when I decided to change jobs after 18 years at my previous company (Ferrovial).

The truth is that my friends often ask me if I regret having changed. The answer is clear. No, I do not regret it. I believe that during these almost 11 years I have had the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally, and what is more important, from the first day I started until today, the feeling of pride in working at Telefónica is there. In fact, I think my blood is Telefónica blue.

Is there any project at Telefónica that you feel particularly satisfied with or proud of?

The truth is that I am proud of everything… However, if I had to highlight a project, I would highlight the project I came for. Professionalising the company’s data centres. Thanks to the efforts of a lot of colleagues in all countries, I have had the good fortune to lead what has undoubtedly been and continues to be a success. We have been able to consolidate our data centres by closing the less reliable and efficient ones and growing and investing in those that allowed us to optimise investments, achieving a footprint with fewer but better DCs. In addition to guaranteeing continuity of service, this has enabled us to reduce our costs in this technological layer by 20%. This professionalisation of our DCs allowed us to close the Daytona project in 2019.

What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society?

It might be a bit ostentatious, but I think we are generating quality of life. Connecting people is much more than a successful slogan. The truth is that being able to innovate and make the latest technology available to society is something that I think every single person who works at Telefónica is proud of.

Where do you see Telefónica in the future?

I believe that Telefónica, because of its DNA, will always be close to people, and will be the travelling companion that will allow us to discover new ways of living together, always providing us with a more human world.

Could you live without a mobile phone?

Yes, I think so. There is no doubt that we have become much more dependent on mobile phones…, but I think, I don’t know if it’s because of my age, that there are much more important things. I belong to the generation that understands that it is better to talk about things than to ‘wasapearlas’.

Help us solve one of the great enigmas of humanity: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?

Uff, obviously, both.

Nominate other colleagues to appear in this section

The truth is that I would encourage the whole company to do this exercise…, it’s super rewarding to spend a few minutes reflecting.

In #Thespanishomelettething tag section we interview Telefónica’s employees on a variety of topics, while trying to solve one of humanity’s greatest dilemmas.
