How long have you been with Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?

In May of this year, having just celebrated 100 years at Telefónica, I celebrated a quarter of a century at its side and 50 years of life, round figures that have encouraged me to make this assessment!

Thanks to Telefónica, I began a more independent life at the age of 25 and I have had stability and financial peace of mind throughout my life. Thanks to Telefónica, I met my husband, with whom I had three daughters… and the greatest and most beautiful purpose of my life, which I have been able to reconcile. Thanks to Telefónica I have travelled and lived for a time in Vigo and Munich, experiences of 10. Thanks to Telefónica I have learnt, I have trained, I have enjoyed… (and I continue to do so!). I have made great friends, great colleagues and bosses. There have also been some more difficult moments, yes, but with hindsight, I realise how valuable they have been and how much they have made me grow as a person.

My greatest value or feeling: gratitude and affection.

Is there any project at Telefónica that you feel particularly satisfied with or proud of?

I can think of several, but the one that I think has been and is most important for me is the collaboration with the Telefónica training team. After doing the Leading Self course at Universitas in 2015, I became a facilitator, then I became a coach, and now, in addition to continuing as a facilitator in the new edition of Leading Self after the pandemic, I am part of the internal coaching programme, which I am very excited about. Also, being in these “fregados”, I am involved in another initiative that I love, Monday Ten, launched by a colleague, now extelefónico, Javier Espinola, by which many colleagues we connect on Mondays at 10:00 am, for half an hour, to listen to valuable talks on relevant issues of life.

I must also mention how proud I am of our Foundation and how much I have benefited from some of the voluntary work I have done thanks to it.

What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society?

What would society be without Telefónica? I think this company is crucial in all aspects of life: in business, teleworking, training/education, medicine, entertainment… It was during the pandemic that I really realised what a fundamental role and responsibility it plays. Life was able to go on from our homes (which became schools, offices, cinemas) thanks to the strength of our networks and the vocation of service, the pillar of our activity.

Where do you see Telefónica in the future?

It is difficult for me to envisage what the future will be like, with Artificial Intelligence established in all areas, but I imagine Telefónica as a key player in the great advances we will experience.

Could you live without a mobile phone?

Yes, I think I could live without a mobile phone. One of my favourite quotes from St. Francis of Assisi, which I try to put into practice, is: “I need few things and the few things I need I need very little”. It would be very hard for me because I’m so used to it, but I think I could adapt again, I didn’t have a mobile until I was 25 I think! I think the mobile phone is a marvel, but also a danger when it is overused.

Help us solve one of humanity’s great enigmas: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?

Enigmas that will always be with us, for all tastes! I like all omelettes, with or without onions, but if it’s Betanzos style, juicy, all the better!

I nominate Santiago Muñoz, from Fundación Telefónica and Rosa Céspedes, from Universitas.

In #Thespanishomelettething tag section we interview Telefónica’s employees on a variety of topics, while trying to solve one of humanity’s greatest dilemmas.
