How long have you been with Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?

Well, I have been working for the company for more than 25 years now, since one day in April, in my last year of university, I saw a poster advertising internships for companies and decided to sign up. And since then, I have been very happy until today.

For that reason alone, I could say that I have been with Telefónica all my life. The reality is that I have been linked to Telefónica all my life, since I was born. My maternal grandparents ran the switchboard in a small town in Segovia, Madrona, and I grew up between plugs and cable towers in my living room. In addition, both my father and mother have been employees of the company until their retirement. So for me, talking about Telefónica means talking about my family and my second home.

Is there any project at Telefónica that you feel particularly satisfied with or proud of?

There have been many relevant and strategic projects in which I have been involved during all these years and of which I feel very proud, all of them linked to the international business environment in which I have worked.

I am very proud to be able to say that I have accompanied the international expansion of the Group almost from the beginning, with the expansion of our global network footprint, to the point where we now have more than 100 points of presence in 33 countries. And I have special memories of the ‘Scuba’ project, which involved the creation of a new company, Telxius, for Telefónica Global Solutions (then TIWS), because of the challenge, the learning achieved and the transformation it entailed.

What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society?

A great deal, and we will continue to do so. We have contributed with innovation, technology and commitment, both to always offer the best services and to seek solutions that benefit society. This has made it possible to accelerate economic development in all the regions where we operate and, as our motto says, to make the world more human. I believe that Telefónica’s great work is undeniable and all of us who work, or have worked, in the company should feel proud of it.

Where do you see Telefónica in the future?

Well, I would like to continue to see it as a leading company and a benchmark in the telecommunications market, with a greater international presence if possible, and one that has been able to adapt to the new needs that society demands.

Could you live without a mobile phone?

Without a mobile phone, yes, but life would be much more boring and complicated, and I think I would need a ‘reskilling’ course to relearn how to get by without all the facilities that a mobile phone provides!

Help us solve one of humanity’s great enigmas: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?

With onion, without a doubt, and lightly cooked. The best, a cliché, mum’s homemade one, delicious!

Nominate other colleagues to appear in this section

There are many who have interesting stories to share, but I’m going to nominate and give visibility to some of the great female talent that we treasure. From the present, three pillars of my team, Rebeca Jarabo, Gema Ramiro and Isabel Martín-Caro, and Walmara de Paula, great colleague and best support. From my past experience, Susana Caudeli, Patricia Romero and Raquel Ruiz, with whom I learned to manage in the company and who I know will always be there when I need them.

In #Thespanishomelettething tag section we interview Telefónica’s employees on a variety of topics, while trying to solve one of humanity’s greatest dilemmas.
