How long have you been with Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?

I have been with Telefónica for many years and I have had the opportunity to develop in different areas from customer care in Argentina to now working for Telefónica Hispanoamérica under the leadership of Miguel Calderón.

Subscribe to Telefónica’s blog and find out before anyone else.

The assessment I make is extremely positive and of continuous learning, sharing work with collaborators, colleagues and in teams that taught me valuable knowledge and excellent values as a person are the reasons why I feel that Telefónica is a family for me.

Is there any project at Telefónica that you are particularly satisfied with or proud of?

Several, on the one hand Open Gateway, in my opinion, is the future of the business. Developing an interoperable, standardised and secure platform is what will make it easier to provide advanced digital services to a broad segment of customers. The challenge I am going through is its implementation in Hispam through the strategic/regulatory analysis of the regulations in the 8 countries of the region. I am satisfied with the leadership I have been doing in the internal working groups and with the different operators that joined the initiative on regulatory progress and risks.

In addition, another milestone of which I am proud is the organisation of Regulatory Month, a training programme promoted by the Strategy and Public Policy area in coordination with the Hispam people team, Hispam training and external consultants. During the month of April 2024 we carried out the 4th edition achieving a wide participation. In addition, I lead and elaborate in collaboration with TEF. the positionings for the Hispam countries in digital issues of great importance such as Cybersecurity and AI. As I said, it is a challenge and an achievement, since preparing positioning documents and training programmes on such complex and little-known topics in the region is no easy task.

What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society?

Telefónica has connected people, has managed to be the transmitter of emotions, experiences and has been – and is – a promoter of change.

In Argentina, before Telefónica was awarded the telephone concession, it took years to install a telephone line, but with the arrival of the company, the paradigm changed and immediacy was the premise.

After the pandemic, we became aware of the importance of the services provided by the company, so without the quality of our services, practically nothing would have been possible, for example, working, medical consultations, studying and connecting with our loved ones during those times of confinement.

I believe that Telefónica has contributed and continues to contribute essential value to society, and with the development of AI systems an additional benefit is perceived, as the use of data through AI allows us to respond to natural disasters, and this line of action directly contributes to saving human lives. Thus, thanks to technology, we collaborate with different organisations that have acted in areas where different disasters have occurred and have helped those affected.

Where do you see Telefónica in the future?

I see it as a transformational company with a focus on innovative solutions. Open Gateway, the development of services through AI are going to be the services of the future that will allow us to interconnect using the network as if it were one, being secure and reliable with availability to a wide ecosystem of stakeholders.

Telefónica is avant-garde and close to change, which is why the development of new services and business models will be the driving force behind an innovative, sustainable, diverse, reliable and secure future.

Could you live without a mobile phone?

The truth is that I am not addicted to networks, the reality is that I use my mobile phone for personal and work purposes, but I must admit that it is a great tool to stay informed and connected.

Help us to solve one of the great enigmas of humanity: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?

Does it exist without onion?

Suggest a crazy idea you’d like Telefónica to do for its centenary

I would love a synchronised virtual celebration between all the countries; each operation organises the meeting locally and we all join in a virtual world toast.

I nominate José Rafael Riera, Wholesale Business and Public Affairs at Telefónica Hispam and Regulatory Manager at Telefónica Argentina.

In #Thespanishomelettething tag section we interview Telefónica’s employees on a variety of topics, while trying to solve one of humanity’s greatest dilemmas.
