How long have you been with Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?
I have been with Telefónica for 23 years, 5 years as a receptionist where I have great memories of my beginnings and the following 18 years as an executive secretary. I feel very proud of everything I have achieved and of the people I have met during this time. I think I have built great things along the way and I have been lucky enough to have many experiences in all the areas I have been fortunate enough to work in.
When I joined Telefónica, a person I greatly admired in HR, E.G.V., told me: “Lourdes, build your beginnings well and you will see how you will achieve great things in the future“. And I have a lot to thank for that sentence.
Is there any project at Telefónica that you feel particularly satisfied with or proud of?
There are two projects that I am really proud of. One of them has to do with my role, and it has always been clear to me that the secretarial profession is very lonely, you always work in the shadows of the companies and perhaps very rarely have a team that makes you feel visible. For this reason, together with my colleagues, I decided to form the Telephone Secretarial Group, a place where we could feel like a team, where we could talk about our doubts and queries and answer them as soon as possible. To have our own channel, a website where we could give visibility to our work and organise events or team days where we could express the objectives and challenges we face on a daily basis.
My second passion came from the sporting side, football. In 2015, the Telefónica Women’s Football Team project was launched, a group made up of Telefónica professionals who enjoyed playing their favourite sport outside the offices and whose second objective was to be the best ambassadors of the Telefónica Brand. We are currently continuing with the project.
What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society from birth?
I think Telefónica has made great progress, focusing its products on all its customers, focusing on each segment and adapting its services to the needs of the market and people. It has evolved digitally and has undergone a transformation in all its processes, becoming a market leader.
Where do you see Telefónica in the future?
This is a difficult question to answer. Perhaps a totally sustainable Telefónica, involved with the planet, society and people. A company without physical headquarters due to great technological advances, a company led by powerful profiles that work with artificial intelligence and that, thanks to the great evolution of machines, streamline processes that lead this project. A Telefónica that leads the Communication market alone and where the people who lead it are all those who make up this project.
Could you live without a mobile phone?
It’s complicated, I consider myself a person closely linked to communication: news, people, current affairs. I suppose that not having communication would mean not being sufficiently up-to-date with the world around us, even with our families and friends. On holidays, family or friends’ time, I try to detox from using my mobile phone and so I get some balance.
Help us solve one of humanity’s great enigmas: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?
A good potato omelette is always without onion, its flavour should always be the real thing with the best potato, egg, olive oil and a touch of salt.
