In this experience I discovered that technology not only advances and unites people’s lives, making the world more human, but also allows us to keep the essence of our loved ones alive, even after they have left us.
It is even a therapeutic sensation that has helped me to face loss and grief, through the preservation of the voices and videos of those we have loved.
Voice and video: a journey that connects us with the past
Listening to that conversation that was saved on a mobile phone, or stored as a backup in the cloud, and that pleasantly surprises us with the warmth of those voices, listening to their laughter, words and even advice that allows us to relive special moments.
The digital legacy, through the capture of unforgettable moments
The digitisation of photos that tell us those stories we lived with our family and friends who are no longer with us, videos that go one step further, preserving their gestures, expressions and movements. I recently saw a video that my son made of his recently deceased grandmother, asking us to remember her as an adventurer who travelled the world, and that has changed even the way I see life. I enjoy every moment and I have dedicated myself to travelling to get to know little villages and places and to create those memories that I will leave as a legacy when I too am no longer on this earthly plane. As the song of a famous reggaeton singer says, ‘I would have taken more photos!’ Let’s not leave it as a pending task and let’s do it from now on, let’s safeguard every moment that will become unforgettable.
Tools like Google Photos or Dropbox allow us to save these memories in one place and they can be shared with future generations.
And where do we leave virtual reality?
I also recently saw a reels on social media where figures from world history were revived using artificial intelligence. Holograms, on the other hand, allow for the projection of three-dimensional images that can move and talk, offering an even more realistic representation.
Technology offers powerful tools to preserve our memories after death, allowing our stories to continue. At the end of the day, the most important thing is that these memories serve as a bridge between generations, connecting the present with the past and offering comfort to those left behind.
