Productivity: Are we using our full potential?

Every time I hear that phrase it leaves me completely baffled. To be honest, it's one of the worst I've ever heard in a professional environment.

Not only does this phrase limit our functions, but when I hear it, I find it hard to distinguish whether it is said by a person or a robot.

Humans or robots?

We say that robots are designed to do exactly what they are set up to do: follow rules, patterns and perform specific tasks. Now, with the AI hype, we fear that they might become smarter than us, to the point of imagining them as a Terminator coming to destroy us. Thank you, Hollywood!

But here’s my reflection: Is it possible that something that is designed to execute orders and follow rules to perfection is capable of ‘breaking’ them, while we humans, who are the creators of these machines, just say: ‘I just do what I am asked to do, not a second more, not an extra task that is not in my contract’?

Science fiction or reality?

Robots evolving to think like humans and, at the same time, humans choosing to devolve to behave like robots.

Don’t get me wrong, but the profile of someone who only does the minimum, who turns off their brain, who does not seek to improve or reflect, worries me deeply. Because when we don’t unleash our creativity, we stop contributing value. And when we stop contributing, we become mere executors of tasks, i.e. robots.

Are we really productive?

We work 8 hours a day, the minimum is that those hours should be productive, challenging and enriching. Let’s surround ourselves with people who are curious, with initiative, who do not necessarily have the same strengths, but who have the same desire to grow. Diverse, multidisciplinary, high-performance teams that work as a team, where everyone brings their best to achieve a common goal.

In the end, work is, yes, about earning money and making a living, but what if we also turn it into an opportunity to be better people? To be more productive, creative and innovative. That extra neuron that you activate can make the difference: to generate better ideas, grow professionally and contribute more value.

The role of artificial intelligence

Of course, AI also plays a key role here. If technology can bring out the best in us, help us do our work faster and better, why not take advantage of it? If a tool can make my day easier and allow me to finish my tasks in my 8 hours efficiently, I not only go home on time, but happy, knowing that I have made a meaningful contribution. The contrast is clear: let’s not be like Fred Flintstones who just waited for the bell to ring to leave work, bored and unmotivated. Instead, let’s make our working hours a space to grow, contribute and evolve. Change starts with us, let’s row!
