How long have you been with Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?
I have been with Telefónica for 12 years now, during which time I have grown and learned a lot as a person and as a professional. Telefónica allowed me to change and overcome my own barriers, as it allowed me to start a new cycle in the field of telecommunications. And what I value most is the opportunities it has given me to continue adding and contributing to what I like to do, connecting with people and contributing to a more digital world.
Is there any project at Telefónica that you feel particularly satisfied with?
Everything I have done at Telefónica since I started has added up and the one that has given me a lot of satisfaction for the work done and well done has been the Digitalisation and Self-Management initiatives, the development of mobile applications has been my passion and commitment, giving an evolution and transformation to the My Movistar App has been a challenge and at the same time has given me great satisfaction. I have grown with it, adding more digital channels to customer service as the centre of everything, and it is my greatest pride and passion to lead this initiative.
What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society?
Telefónica brings transformation, leadership and commitment to its internal and external environment. It goes beyond being a telecommunications company; it is concerned with serving and giving wellbeing to people, from its main function, which is to connect us to the world, providing quality services and offering products that help to change people’s lives. Telefónica focuses on people and from there builds the region and the countries where it operates. From the most technological to the most human point of view, which is to work for a better society, strengthening it on all economic, social and cultural levels.
Where do you see Telefónica in the future?
Telefónica is already in the future. For me, today Telefónica is building, from its technological contribution, from its different lines of business, a world that leads us to use communications efficiently and make the most of all the resources it has to offer. From connecting a mobile device to connecting large networks, adding that we use this connectivity from the simplest of things, such as solving our customer’s needs through an application, to taking these applications to our homes or businesses to simplify our processes, to simplify our day-to-day life, intelligently and efficiently. We are already in that future and we have the best partners to keep adding to it.
Could you live without a mobile phone?
No! Never. If I were shipwrecked on an island, and I was granted three wishes, one would be to have a mobile phone and the second would be a radio base or satellite to keep me connected, the third would be fresh water. My phone is my alarm, my watch, it is my link to keep me up to date with everything, it is my work tool and it is my link to my children, family and friends. And the most important reason is because it is the direct link to my son Ricardo who no longer lives here in Venezuela and through that little window I am with him every day.
Help us solve one of the great enigmas of humanity: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?
Oh, God! Definitely with onion, onion is a flavourful ingredient. But I’ll make a confession: I don’t eat onion, I don’t like it, but I solve it by simply putting it on the side.
