How long have you been with Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?
I have been with Telefónica for more than eleven years, although since 2007 I spent most of my PwC career with Telefónica as an end client in O2 Czech Republic, TISA, O2 Germany and UK. The experience has been incredibly enriching both professionally and personally. I have been privileged to play a variety of roles that have allowed me to be involved in strategic projects with a global impact, especially in the field of digital entertainment.
What I value most about my career here is the opportunity to collaborate with international teams and manage relationships with large OTT platforms such as Netflix, Amazon and Disney+. Telefónica has been key in my development, offering me an environment where I have been able to explore new business opportunities and contribute to the digital transformation of the telecommunications sector. Without a doubt, it is a place that has allowed me to grow and leave a significant footprint.
Is there a project at Telefónica that you are particularly proud or satisfied with?
One of the projects I am most proud of at Telefónica was the global launch of the services of the main OTT platforms such as Netflix, Amazon and Disney+ in the group’s countries. This project involved coordinating teams in multiple regions, managing strategic agreements with key industry players and ensuring an innovative experience for our customers. In addition, I participated in the creation of new entertainment experiences, such as Karaoke Kanto’s Living App, which reflects our focus on innovation, or XR experiences accompanying the premiere of Movistar Plus+’ s original El Inmortal. Seeing how these projects have enriched Telefónica’s value proposition gives me great satisfaction.
What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society?
Telefónica has had a significant impact on society by connecting millions of people around the world, facilitating communication and access to information anytime, anywhere. Through its services, it not only provides quality entertainment through its alliances with major content platforms, but also promotes digital inclusion, helping to close the technology gap.
In addition, initiatives such as Fundación Telefónica, Fundación 42 and ProFuturo are clear examples of the company’s social commitment. These initiatives promote digital education, entrepreneurship and training in technological skills, enabling young people and adults to face the challenges of the digital era. In the environmental sphere, Telefónica has been a pioneer in adopting sustainable practices and reducing its carbon footprint, demonstrating a comprehensive responsibility towards the planet and society. This reinforces its role as a leader in digital transformation with an inclusive and sustainable vision for the future.
Where do you see Telefónica in the future?
In the future, I see Telefónica consolidated as a global leader in connectivity and technological innovation. With its presence in 12 countries and a 100-year track record, the company has demonstrated an exceptional ability to adapt and lead in digital transformation. In the coming years, Telefónica will not only continue to develop advanced infrastructures such as 5G and fibre optics, but will also excel in the implementation of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and extended reality (XR).
In addition, Telefónica’s commitment to sustainability and digital inclusion will be central to its growth. It will help close the technology gap and improve the quality of life for millions of people. Telefónica will evolve not just as a telecommunications company, but as a digital ecosystem that connects, entertains and empowers society in an increasingly interconnected and technological world.
Could you live without a mobile phone?
Living without a mobile phone would be really difficult, not only because of the device itself, but because of everything it represents. The mobile phone has become much more than a communication tool; it is a window to the world, connecting to the internet and a myriad of services that make our daily lives easier. From managing work tasks to accessing entertainment or information in real time.
While I recognise the value and convenience of the mobile phone, I am also aware of the importance of maintaining a balance. Therefore, I try to be disciplined and try to disconnect, especially when I am with my family, friends or focused on my leisure. Beyond the consumption of professional content on YouTube and LinkedIn, I make little use of the usual social networks. All of this is always in pursuit of enjoying quality time with myself and my loved ones.
Help us solve one of humanity’s great enigmas: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?
Ah, the eternal potato omelette debate! Personally, I think the addition of onion adds an extra sweetness and flavour that beautifully complements the potatoes and eggs. If it’s caramelised onion, the flavour is even more enhanced! I understand that there are those who prefer omelettes without onions for reasons of simplicity or tradition, and that too has its charm.
Since an Italian cooks in my house, the frittata, with that extra touch of onion, becomes a classic and delicious dish. Ultimately, it all depends on your personal taste – for me, a good omelette with onions is simply unbeatable!
