How long have you been with Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?

I’ve been here for more than eight years and I think it’s amazing! It seems like yesterday when I joined Universitas, impressed by the disruptive mentality that characterised the project and by what it represented within Telefónica. I am still here because I am passionate about what we do and because in all this time I have not been bored for a single day. I am fortunate to face challenges all the time and to be able to offer colleagues from all over the group the possibility of training to grow professionally and thus collaborate in making the company grow.

Is there any project at Telefónica that you feel particularly satisfied with?

I don’t know if you can call it a project, because it is already part of the company’s DNA, but I think Volunteers is something to be very proud of. I don’t know if anything similar is done in other companies of our size, but what it means in terms of mobilising employees in favour of altruistic causes, in terms of commitment to society, is enormous. Participating in actions such as Volunteers’ Day makes us feel part of something big and meaningful, and shows that Telefónica is made up of people with great human value.

What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society?

I find it hard to imagine life without Telefónica, and I think it has been that important for many generations. It has brought us closer when we have been far away, it has given us access to the latest technologies in terms of communications, it has made life easier for us personally and professionally, it has opened up a world of possibilities without which we would not be, at any level, where we are now. And above all, it has made us believe we are capable of anything.

Where do you see Telefónica in the future?

I would like to see it leading a sector that looks after the rights of people and our environment, deploying technology that contributes to the evolution of our society, but without neglecting respect for others, for the environment… In short, staying true to its mission of making our world more human, connecting people’s lives.

Could you live without a mobile phone?

Of course I could. I love how easy technology has made our lives (because mobile phones help us with any kind of management and using them to call is almost anecdotal), but I think we have become very dependent and more and more ‘functionally illiterate’. Sometimes I miss doing things the old-fashioned way…

Help us solve one of the great enigmas of humanity: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?

With onion, always! And for an extra touch of flavour… a little garlic!

Nominate other colleagues to appear in this section…

What a tough choice…José María Hoyos of CDO and Diana Pavón of TTECH.

In #Thespanishomelettething tag section we interview Telefónica’s employees on a variety of topics, while trying to solve one of humanity’s greatest dilemmas.
