Lis Lugo Colls (@liscolls) received a cash prize of USD 10,000 to develop her application “Smart Recycling”, which aims to help mobile users to find trash bins and recycling centers wherever they are.

Lis was truly excited. “I never thought that I could win and to show my idea here, surrounded by gurus of green TIC’s”, commented this 27 year old Systems Engineer with two Masters in TIC and in Electronic Businesses and interested in any TIC innovation to promote energy efficiency.

With her proposal for mobiles she wants to promote recycling. “The objective is that the citizens themselves can take the garbage to recycling centers and make some money. With this tool, supported by geo-location, they may find these centers more easily.

In addition, I propose to connect it to the social networks so that anybody may report, in real time, a possible problem with the containers or recycling centers and the information would arrive automatically to the official agencies and to users, i.e. via Twitter”, explains Lis. The application may be used in all of Europe since it is based on all EU standards, said her creator “and it could be very useful in developing countries where there are no recycling policies”.

Lis, originally from Venezuela, lives in Spain with her family and Works as an intern in matters of smart metering, smart cities and smart grids. In the future, she is sure he wants to continue working in green TIC.
