How long have you been at Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?
I started at Telefónica in 2020, joining the Digital Growth team within Telefónica Innovación Digital in the middle of the pandemic to provide transversal support in different areas of digital marketing. The truth is that it was quite a challenge to adapt to the team without having face-to-face contact, but they made it very easy for me! The day we finally met in person was very special.
I imagined everyone in a totally different way to what they were in real life, with no screens in between. Throughout these four years I have learned to face new challenges, lead different areas within digital marketing, adapt to new technologies and acquire new disciplines. Innovation and a disruptive spirit are in my DNA.
Is there any project at Telefónica that you feel particularly satisfied with or proud of?
All the ones I have been involved in. The truth is that it is always difficult for me to let go of projects, because I am very fond of them. Especially because of the people I have had the pleasure of working with, the experiences, the anecdotes and, above all, the lessons learned. But, perhaps, being the first when I joined, I would choose the launch of the sustainable technology ecommerce tu.com. It was my first project and I will always carry it in my heart. We had the great challenge of positioning the brand in the market, and we succeeded! And now, I’m immersed in a new one that is also giving us a lot of joy, which is Ovio market, a platform for buying and selling refurbished devices, so I’ll keep them both! That said, I can’t get away from them.
What do you think Telefónica has contributed since its inception?
Mainly innovation. I think we have always been at the forefront of the telecommunications sector and we have been able to lead and anticipate change. We have brought a lot of knowledge to the sector and, above all, Telefónica has given people the possibility to connect through technology. Put like that, it sounds easy, but it is not. It is a company that has grown with society and has known how to adapt and offer what was asked of it. It is a great pride and privilege to be a witness to all that we contribute to society.
Where do you see Telefónica in the future?
We will continue to lead the sector for another 100 years or? for as long as it takes! The company’s ability to adapt and anticipate is admirable. We have the great challenge of promoting current technologies such as AI, Quantum Computing… and all the new ones that do not exist now, and also being able to channel their use to protect people. We are also going to have to face a very advanced and knowledgeable digital native audience, where we will have to be disruptive in capturing their attention on any screen and last but not least, I have no doubt that we will continue to strive to be more sustainable and take care of our planet.
Could you live without a mobile phone?
As bad as it sounds, I have to be honest and I can’t imagine living without a mobile phone for 24 hours. I have had a mobile phone since I was 9 years old and for me it is an extension of my body. It is difficult to imagine myself without it, although not impossible. In fact, I believe that very soon we will have new devices that will replace and, of course, improve our beloved smartphones.
However, I also think it is important to know how to “unhook” and leave, even if only for a few hours, the hyper connectivity aside. In my case, the only places where you can find me without my phone in my hand are in a restaurant with friends or family or in front of the sea. For me, there is no TikTok that beats the moment you are living with the people you love.
Help us solve one of the great enigmas of humanity: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?
Obviously, with onion. I love this question because I am a fan of omelettes. And of course, there is none better than my mother’s: juicy, with very thin slices of onion and cooked to perfection. You’re going to make me go and have a pincho de tortilla, right now! I don’t understand why this debate is still going on if it’s so clear: Team onion 100%!
Nominate another colleague to appear in this section
Can’t you nominate more? I would nominate many colleagues, but especially Vicente Martínez, who has always been a source of inspiration for me. When I arrived at the company they said he would be my buddy, a figure I could trust to help you with everything you needed in your adaptation, and they certainly had a good eye for choosing him! I could spend hours listening to him talk about CRO!
