How long have you been with Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?

The truth is that I’m still a bit of a “baby”. I joined Telefónica Tech in May 2022, although my first contact with Telefónica was in 2003 as a telemarketer for one of our Business Customer Service Centres, through one of our collaborating companies, while I was studying. The Telefónica of 2003 has nothing to do with the Telefónica of today. New business units have been created, such as the one I am in, which are enabling Telefónica to be a leader in more areas.

Although I have only been here a short time, my assessment has been very positive. I am very grateful for all the opportunities I have been offered, which have allowed me to grow both personally and professionally. As Confucius said “Choose a job you like and you will never have to work a day in your life”, and this is what Telefónica is allowing me to enjoy.

Is there any project at Telefónica that you feel particularly satisfied with or proud of?

If I had to highlight a specific project, I would highlight the participation of the team I lead as a pilot in the implementation of the ITSM and Monitoring System of Telefónica Tech. I think that being able to participate in a project that is going to lay the foundations for the future of the whole company is a great source of pride (and responsibility at the same time). We have detected use cases that were not initially contemplated, and that, thanks to this, will improve both the employee experience and the perception that our customers will have when dealing with requests and incidents.

What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society?

I would highlight the connection between people “wherever they are” (as the MoviLine slogan says), and not only with its cutting-edge technology, but also through social actions, through the Telefónica Foundation or ATAM (for example), which have enabled inclusion and help for many vulnerable groups. For some time now, it has also been playing important roles such as the digital education of future generations and its commitment to the environment, to reduce CO2 emissions.

Where do you see Telefónica in the future?

Of course, innovating, which we are quite good at. Improving existing connectivity (FTTH, 5G), being a benchmark in new emerging businesses such as Artificial Intelligence, and an example of a socially responsible company. In short, improving people’s lives, as it has been doing for almost 100 years. If Telefónica did not exist, it would have to be invented.

Could you live without a mobile phone?

Difficult decision. I don’t think I’m ready nowadays, because in general we are quite dependent on mobile phones for everything. Even for some companies, such as banks or some public administrations, it has become a multi-factor authentication element to validate our identity. The attachment I have right now, both for my personal and work life, makes me think that I could not live without a mobile phone.

Help us solve one of the great enigmas of humanity: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?

As a descendant from Extremadura, where this wonderful dish was invented, I should say “Without onion”, but since I like innovation (as a good “Telefónico”), I prefer any of its varieties (with or without onion), as long as it is made with love.
