How long have you been with Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?

I have been with Telefónica since 2000. I was in my twenties then and now that I’m in my fifties, it’s clear to me that Telefónica is much more than just my pay cheque. I have grown and developed as a person and as a professional here, and it is clear to me that I owe a large part of what I am and who I am to Telefónica. I value my time at the company in terms of feelings: gratitude, pride and thanks.

Subscribe to Telefónica’s blog and find out before anyone else.

Is there any project at Telefónica that you feel particularly satisfied with or proud of?

I remember an infinite number of projects, more or less important, because the important thing is to do well what is in your hands. I remember some with special affection, such as the pioneering process of Prepaid Identification in 2009 together with María López Vellón, the design of the fibre home network in 2011 with José Manuel Molina and Oscar Francisco, or more recently the development of Living Apps together with Manuela Mellado and Luz González Zabala from CDCO… these are projects and the people with whom you build them, who bring out the best in me and help you to grow.

What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society?

This company and its professionals have been a vector of change and modernisation of a society that, in 1924, was rural, remote and autocratic, to a society that is advanced, plural and at last fully convergent with its European neighbours. And, without sinning one iota of national and “Telefónica” pride, in aspects such as the Information Society, in which Telefónica’s contribution has been direct, Spain is an international benchmark.

Where do you see Telefónica in the future?

Although I may be retired by that date, I see Telefónica celebrating its 2nd Centenary with the same enthusiasm as this first one. But not because arithmetic says that one hundred and one hundred is two hundred, but because we have been able to continue understanding the needs of society and driving the transformation.  How nice it would be if in 100 years’ time some of the company’s employees, who could be our grandchildren, were to leave a record of their pride in Telefónica’s contribution to the evolution of society in the decades to come, wouldn’t it?

Could you live without a mobile phone?

I could… if it were just a mobile phone! But now it is so many things that giving it up becomes unbearable, especially now that I have a son studying abroad and thanks to the mobile phone we are in his day-to-day life despite the distance and jet lag.

Help us to solve one of the great enigmas of humanity: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?

What kind of question is that? Everyone knows that the potato omelette with onion is not edible. It’s like those people who live in Madrid and are not Atleti fans. You can, but… does it make sense?

Nominate another colleague to appear in this section

I nominate Héctor Rodrigo, from Control de Gestión, with whom I shared my first day at Telefónica in July 2000 and with whom, over the years and intermittently, I continue to collaborate so many years later.

In #Thespanishomelettething tag section we interview Telefónica’s employees on a variety of topics, while trying to solve one of humanity’s greatest dilemmas.
