How long have you been with Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?

Well, I am on this wonderful journey a little more than 23 years two days after my birthday. I joined Emergia, now TELXIUS, when VIVO started the expansion of its network outside Sao Paulo and since then our life and company stories have blended in a path of adventures with many opportunities for development inside and outside Brazil, challenging and ambitious projects that have highlighted the great team that is this Telefónica family, several personal and professional achievements and above all a great feeling of accomplishment, pride and belonging.

Is there any project at Telefónica that you feel particularly satisfied with or proud of?

There have been many projects that I have been passionate about over the years, be they technically challenging, financially ambitious and, above all, humanly diverse. The latter, a gift that I enjoy every day with the richness of our diversity of talents always evident in the international environment where I move. Even so, if I have to talk about a specific project that has marked me as challenging, with “impossible” deadlines, where everything was new (processes, suppliers, equipment, etc.) and we set the pace, I would mention my first project to deploy the SAm-1 Submarine Network in 2008 and more recently the project to transform the Telefónica Global Solutions Network to a Telco Cloud model with all the impact that the AI revolution is bringing us.

What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society?

A lot! I believe that a company can only manage to remain at the forefront for 100 years in an increasingly competitive and changing environment if its contribution and value is recognised by society. Our mission of “making our world more human, connecting people’s lives” is very strong because we live it every day in countless situations in our lives and in the most distant corners where Telefónica is present and in many cases is the only company present, proving that this mission really touches us and inspires us.

Where do you see Telefónica in the future?

By contributing and contributing all its talent and vision to an increasingly global and integrated society. Humanity has many challenges and for me communication and connection is undoubtedly one of them. We know and we are living an increasingly rapid technological evolution and if we can dream for a not so distant future with commercial space travel, why not dream of communication and connection solutions that accompany this journey?

Could you live without a mobile phone?

Well, I have lived it and therefore I know how this change has profoundly improved our lives. I remember sending and receiving letters to my mother when I was on a student exchange and today we talk about different countries via video calls on my mobile phone and the impact on our “saudades” is priceless.

Help us solve one of the great enigmas of humanity: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?

Well, both are delicious, but I am an unconditional fan of onion in the culinary arts.

Nominate other colleagues to appear in this section

This has been the most difficult question because everyone has something special to contribute to this space, but here are some names that have recently inspired me on my journey at Telefónica: Jose Javier Diez Garcia, Jesús Luis Folgueira Chavarría, Mónica Martinez Quero and Estrella Oñate Lillo.

In #Thespanishomelettething tag section we interview Telefónica’s employees on a variety of topics, while trying to solve one of humanity’s greatest dilemmas.
