How long have you been with Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?
On 23 October I will have been with Telefónica for seven years, and every year I celebrate my ‘Telefónica birthday’ with my first boss. The day I started working here, he told me that I would never be bored, and so far that has been true. I graduated in Industrial Psychology, convinced from a very young age that I wanted to work in Human Resources. For a long time I worked in Recruitment, and little by little opportunities arose that introduced me to other disciplines such as Organisation, Compensation, Development and Talent. I joined Telefónica to cover organisation and compensation projects in the Global Units and since then it has been fascinating how projects follow one after another, sometimes expected, most of them innovative, but all of them different from each other.
My assessment of these 7 years is that I am happily entertained
Is there any project at Telefónica that you are particularly satisfied with?
I feel satisfied with the opportunity to have participated in all the projects that have come so far, some I have liked more and others less, some have turned out better and others have not been as interesting as they seemed at the beginning, but you learn from all of them. If I could only choose one (I can’t, I need to mention two) it would be: The launch of the Agility Bootcamp, a project together with the Telefónica de España People team in 2018-2019, in which we certified more than 25 colleagues as ‘Agile Coaches’ for the Group, and the Equal Pay project in 2020, also together with the Telefónica de España People team for compliance with the new regulations on gender pay equality, and for which Telefónica was awarded in the Premios Expansión a la Innovación de RRHH 2021 (Expansion Awards for HR Innovation 2021).
What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society?
I think our mission is the perfect summary of what Telefónica has contributed and continues to contribute to society: ‘We want to make our world more human, connecting people’s lives’. I don’t think there is a more beautiful and tangible purpose than this.
Since our beginnings, Telefónica has been connecting people’s lives by taking advantage of existing technology at all times, and innovating to be able to dream of other ways of communicating, other speeds and even other realities. Aware of how important it is for human beings to be connected and responsible for understanding and explaining the use of all this innovation, which is faster than many of us are able to assimilate.
Where do you see Telefónica in the future?
I want to see it as it is now, anticipating what is to come, adapting and improving what is coming, developing technology that allows us to achieve impossible challenges, aware of people’s wellbeing, dreaming big and motivated to make our world more human.
Could you live without a mobile phone?
I have to admit I couldn’t! In fact, it is hard to believe that we used to be able to do without it. Sometimes, talking with colleagues and friends at university, we remember those times when you were late for a meeting, or you couldn’t find a street, not to mention the times when you had to look for one of our phone boxes to call home and tell them you wouldn’t be home at the agreed time, trying to avoid a reprimand. Of course, if I carry my phone, I don’t need to carry anything else in my bag.
Help us solve one of the great enigmas of humanity: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?
Always with onion and not too much curd!
