‘My day to day at Telefónica’, by José Antonio Moreno

Before arriving at the office

Although I’ve never liked getting up early, I’ve always been disciplined and I try to get going in plenty of time to have breakfast with my wife: coffee with milk and toast while we watch the first news on TV. A quick shower, a check of the weather forecast (nowadays using Alexa) which determines the outfit for the day and off I go, either by car or motorbike, to the office. On the way I usually listen to a political or musical talk show (preferably rock). I don’t like the access to the car parks under the buildings, so I use the so-called ‘pull’, much more comfortable, even if you have to walk a little more, it doesn’t hurt to do some morning exercise.

My favourite tools

I’m a graphic designer in the Online Channel of Telefónica España, so my usual tools are part of the Adobe graphic suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, XD or Animate.

  • With Photoshop I edit and retouch all kinds of images that I get from the collection housed in the Brand Center or from those that advertising agencies send in relation to the campaigns they launch together with the Advertising team, and that they give us to be synchronised in commercial communications. I also create small animations that, on occasions, add a little extra eye-catching.
  • With Illustrator I create vector images or modify others that are given to us, usually icons and logos. It is very useful when saving these elements in formats that weigh very little, something basic in the web world.
  • With XD I make dynamic prototypes with final design, generally of web pages, although it is also useful for prototyping applications. The final document is sent to the Developers through a URL where they can see the behaviour of the different elements that are part of the project, the colour codes used, the fonts, the defined spaces, the interactions, etc.
  • With Animate I can create animations using vector elements which, as I said before, weigh very little.

My best moment of the day

Without a doubt, my best time of the day is lunchtime. It’s the time when I try to disconnect by sharing a table with colleagues, not necessarily from my department. And with the coffee afterwards, we finish off by exchanging anecdotes and telling ‘little stories’, especially personal ones.

My tips for organising myself

I don’t consider myself a very organised person, I rely a lot on email and requests that come to me in parallel via Teams, Loop and other tools. And because of the nature of my profession, it is rare that I don’t get requests directly from my bosses, from colleagues in the department or from other areas. And if I leave a task pending, I try to leave it written down so that I can get on with it as soon as I am available again. And if the day is full of meetings (which is common) and I have to contribute data to one of them, I prepare them in plenty of time, nothing that we don’t all do on a regular basis.
