I am here to tell you what a day at work is like for a young, new Telefónica employee who joined the family just over a year ago, but with a great motivation to continue for many more years within the company.
And like the vast majority of us, we have the facility and comfort of being able to carry out our work both at home and in the office, an initiative that is a great help to me, as I firmly believe that the more comfortable a worker is, the more productive he or she will be, and here at Telefónica you have access to all the facilities possible.
How do I start my day?
As soon as I arrive at my work station, I start with the tasks pending from previous days and try to close as many of them as possible.
Afterwards, I check emails and new incidents that have come into my mailbox. Once I have done that, I try to have a revitalising coffee to face the rest of the day.
Then, we like to meet with the Approval and Distribution team to see how the day is shaping up, in relation to problems or projects to finish and some massive distributions that we make to the company, so we can reach a conclusion or solution faster.
My daily tools
At Puesto De Trabajo our mission is to make each employee’s collaborative work place as efficient and productive as possible. To achieve this, we need the following tools to help us carry out our functions:
- SCCM Console (Microsoft Configuration Manager): allows us to make the application packages with their different settings, to deploy the required software to the corresponding people or departments, and to see in detail everything related to the company’s equipment, servers… We also need mock-ups which we use for testing, the CMD or PowerShell to execute scripts.
- Microsoft SQL Server Management: to make some reports on the use and non-use of applications within Telefónica and to be able to keep track of them.
My best moment of the day
The moment that makes me reflect, leave my mind quiet for a while and prepare it for the next round, is when I take my refreshment, quietly in the outdoor facilities of my coupling. It is an ephemeral moment but it is great to be able to bring out the best again. I consider this moment indispensable for any worker, to leave your mind alone for a moment, as I always try to perform at my best at any time and to be as productive as possible, thus reducing the loss of concentration.
Some tips on how to organise myself better
I believe that the ability to organise comes from the personality of each person, everyone has their own order in their disorder.
I always try to plan my tasks in the calendar, for example, meetings, possible future deployments and the different projects we are carrying out.
In the department we usually write down everything on a common site so that we are all aware of the tasks or things to do and the different notes.
I also use the teams personal chat a lot, to write down things I left pending from previous days or things I have to do first thing in the morning, as it’s the first thing I open as soon as I sit down in the office.
