“My day to day at Telefónica”, by David Cucurull

First thing in the morning and against preconceived ideas that a certain disorder and anarchy reigns in the commercial world, at Mediana Empresas Digital, we start with the 9:00 a.m. DAILY.

Find out what a day at work is like for David Cucurull, a Telefónica employee in Madrid. Find out his tricks of the trade.

Every day at the same time. Perfectly planned. All connected through Teams. Each member of the team, in different places. Some in the office, others travelling to see a client. It doesn’t matter. Smartwork, and remote connection, supported by our excellent network and digital tools, gives us a flexibility that allows us to be more efficient, more agile, and closer to our clients, connecting with them in different ways. In a hybrid model that combines the “warmth” of face-to-face meetings with the efficiency of telepresence. At the Daily, we give clear messages about the progress we need to make to help our SMEs on their way to digitalisation. This is not about “how much you have sold”, but about which projects have earned the trust of our customers to choose us as their partner on that journey. It’s not about reviewing sales, it’s about how we can help each other to achieve our goals.

Once the day is launched, the main value of the team begins: being with our clients. Listening to them and detecting their needs in order to offer them the services that Telefónica Empresas makes available to them so that they can continue to grow in a world that is increasingly more connected, more digital and also more sustainable.

During the day, we followed the activity closely to ensure we met our own planning, which is key to achieving our objectives. Only by setting ourselves planned challenges will we be able to achieve them, avoiding improvisation, which would make us less effective.

At the end of the day, a new daily virtual closing meeting. In it, we review the fulfilment of our objectives and advance the messages that will help us to prioritise tomorrow’s activity.

My work tools

Excellent connectivity. Fixed and mobile. Our essential tool has a name: Workstation. And that concept of mobile working is valid for our team, and for our customers. We use what we sell. We sell what we use. We ourselves are the best example of how to work in this new digitalised world. A mobile phone and good computer equipment are essential to keep in constant contact with each other and with our customers.

Outlook, One Drive, M365, allow us to work in a collaborative environment, in which we can share information online, anywhere and at any time. From a PC or directly from a tablet or mobile phone.

As a collaborative tool… our Teams. We can no longer imagine our work without the intensive use of this application. It allows us to meet with people who are in different places. It makes it easier for us to incorporate managers from different areas, holding effective, productive and agile meetings, viewing live and sharing any document or file.

And very concretely in our Digital Medium Business Management, there is no activity or task that does not go through the use of the Planner/Recommendator located in Salesforce. It helps the sales force to prioritise sales meetings with their clients, according to previously established business parameters, to make the sales force’s time and effort efficient and to do it homogeneously as a team.

My best moment of the day

All related to the moments in which you share the work with the people in the team. Especially those in which you notice that you contribute value. That you help.

But particularly in the commercial area, there are sublime moments: the closing of a project. The moment when a client tells you that we have been chosen to become their supplier with our products or services. It doesn’t matter whether it is the implementation of a communications system such as FUSIÓN DIGITAL, the integration of an IT service, or the signing of an agreement to implement solar panels with SOLAR360.

The customer has chosen you. They have chosen Telefónica. And you feel satisfied for the trust obtained from the customer and for the value that this project is going to add to the business area’s profit and loss account. That, without a doubt, is the best moment.

My tips for organising myself

Planning: The key is to use digital tools on a day-to-day basis, and to take advantage of all the information available on the web to get to know our clients better. Essential. Nowadays, we even have an excess of information. It is therefore important to know how to use it.

Improvisation: it should only be used at specific moments when we need to be able to react to an unforeseen event. But in general, my best trick is not to leave anything to chance.

And that same principle is relevant for achieving our business challenges with our customers. Searching the web, and applications such as LinkedIn, or company repositories, classifying the information available, brings us closer to success in meeting our objectives.

Only with good preparation, we will get closer to our SMEs, to continue connecting people’s lives, to make the world more human (and also more digital).
