‘My day-to-day life at Telefónica’, by Patricia Robles

My name is Patricia and I joined the radio optimisation management as an intern in 2014.

Find out what a day at work is like for Patricia Robles, a Telefónica employee.

The projects we carry out on a daily basis are very diverse: we participate in very challenging projects to provide coverage to large customers, in the deployment of 5G accompanied by the gradual shutdown of the second and third generation networks, projects to provide capacity solutions for certain events, deployment of new software functionalities that allow us to improve network performance, etc.

The start of the day

When you get to the office, you can’t miss the time when colleagues catch up with each other about how the week is going. The radio optimisation area has many good things, but, at least for me, one of the best is the team of people who make it up and, above all, the good relationship we have with each other.

After greeting each other and catching up, the first thing I do every morning is to go over my calendar with the scheduled meetings and then check my emails in Outlook, classify them according to their urgency and write down in my diary all the tasks that arise from them.

Once I have a clear picture of the day and I am ready to get down to work, I adapt my tasks according to their priority and the time available between meetings.

My tools

Like many of my colleagues at Telefónica, I combine working in the office with teleworking from home and I think that, regardless of the location, there is no doubt that Teams has become a must in our daily lives. Thanks to the progress that this tool has made in recent years, being in contact with our colleagues and exchanging information has become very easy and has made a big change in the way we work.

On a more technical level, we use a lot of tools to carry out our optimisation work. For example, we use network status analysis tools such as DEVO, EdenNet, GdA, ArcGis… or even Power BI itself… we have some really cool colleagues who use this tool and create some amazing reports with the main KPIs of the mobile network! We also use measurement analysis tools such as ActixOne, SmartAnalytics, Tems, Nemo… as well as tools that allow us to adjust the network parameterisation such as NetAct or ENM.

The best time of the day

For me, one of the best moments of the day is undoubtedly the break with colleagues. It’s a time when you can disconnect from the routine, discuss the main topics of the week and recharge your batteries to continue with the day.

My tips for organising myself

Personally, I’m a big fan of tools like Trello, Planner or ToDo. They are tools that allow you to make to-do lists with different themes, projects… and they also allow you to track in detail the status of each of them, I can’t imagine my day to day without them!
