How long have you been with Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?

I’ve only been working as a Telefónica employee for 3 months, but I’ve been linked to the company for many years.

My first interaction with the company was in 2010, when I was only 13 years old, when I won a BlackBerry in a Movistar Spain Twitter contest for being the fastest at typing a text with my mobile phone, and that’s how I got my first phone connected to the Internet. Shortly afterwards, in 2011, I joined Comunidad Movistar, initially to complain about a billing problem my mother was experiencing, but I ended up finding a great community in which I started to contribute my bit by helping other customers and collaborating, writing articles in the Movisfera. All this has led me to be invited to annual events in Distrito Telefónica with managers, employees and other forum users, which has given me a feeling of belonging.

I have always loved the world of telecommunications and as a computer engineer, I am sure that I will be able to contribute a lot to the future of the company. What I have found in the department I have joined (CTIO) is a big family, with very good professionals, who have welcomed me as one of them from day one.

Is there any project at Telefónica that you are particularly satisfied with or proud of?

With the short time I have been working in the company, I still don’t have much of a professional career in terms of internal projects. Despite this, I am proud of what I am contributing and the rapid progress we are making in my team with the Development Platform project for the standardisation of processes that we are promoting from the Global Units.

What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society in these almost 100 years?

Telefónica has contributed a lot in terms of communication and technology; very few companies are capable of celebrating 100 years.

The company is and has been present at different key moments. Something as ‘simple’ as the beginnings of fixed telephony, the fundamental role in the Apollo 11 mission in satellite communications from Buitrago de Lozoya, or the impressive deployment of fibre optics in terms of the number of homes connected and the technical quality we have in Spain, well above our European neighbours.

Where do you see Telefónica in the next 100 years?

I see Telefónica as an innovative company that will have an even greater presence in everything related to communications and technology. At the last Movistar Community event, we were invited to visit the LaCabina space and I was amazed at the innovations we are bringing to the world – I recommend you pay a visit if you haven’t already!

So I don’t see Telefónica as just a telecommunications operator, I see it as a great technology company that will bring innovation and the latest trends to both individuals and businesses.

Could you live without a mobile phone?

It would be very difficult for me, in an increasingly connected world, I would consider it a step back in time. The mobile phone is an extension that opens up a world of information, communication and entertainment. It is an essential tool for every day-to-day life, but I do agree and defend that we must use it responsibly and educate the new generations who are born with a smartphone in their pocket in the right way.

Help us solve one of humanity’s great enigmas: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?

Potato omelette without onion is like a stew without flavour. It’s always better with onions, and anyone who says otherwise has atrophied taste buds.

Come up with some crazy ideas for celebrating the centenary

Telefónica is celebrating its anniversary in style and I didn’t miss any of the activities planned. I attended the afterwork for the young community on Thursday 18, the recording of Ilustres Ignorantes on Friday 19, the open day on Saturday 20, and I will also enjoy the concert at the Santiago Bernabéu next month. All the guest artists are not yet known, but I’m sure they promise as much as the protagonists.

I was very surprised on the day of the centenary to see the front page of the different newspapers and the congratulations that different brands dedicated to us on TV during the commercials!
