The INHOPE Foundation and Foro Generaciones Interactivas have identified and overseen the creation of a “hotline” in Colombia to join the global fight against Child Sexual Abuse Material online. This initiative is the first hotline member of the INHOPE Foundation that has been created in Latin America and it is under the agreement signed  the last June between these two institutions.

A “hotline” is a mechanism for the public to report in a confidential manner content or use of the Internet that they suspect to be illegal.

Te Protejo hotline, part of Foro Generaciones Interactivas, Red Papaz, MINTIC, ICBF (Colombian Family Welfare Institute) and Fundación Telefónica, has strong national support and meets all of the operational standards identified through the INHOPE Best Practices. Therefore, the INHOPE Foundation is pleased to accept Te Protejo hotline as an Affiliate member to the INHOPE Foundation” said John Shehan, President of the INHOPE Foundation.

Since it began operations in April to July 26, Te Protejo has received 337 reports: 42% concerned sexual abuse content, commercial sexual exploitation and child pornography, 18% to inappropriate content on radio and TV, 11% to sale and consumption of alcohol and other psychoactive substances, 10% of bullying or cyberbullying and 19% to other abuses.

“We, Te Protejo, and Red PaPaz as administrator, along with our partners Ministerio TIC, ICBF, Fundación Telefónica and Foro Generaciones Interactivas are deeply committed to the fight against child sexual abuse material on the Internet” said Carolina Piñeros, from Te Protejo.

INHOPE Fundation is the European International Association of Internet Hotlines. INHOPE coordinates a network of Internet Hotlines all over the world, supporting them in responding to reports of illegal content to make the Internet safer.

This institution looks forward to collaborating with Te Protejo and helping them fulfil the ultimate goal of obtaining Full Membership to the INHOPE Association whilst protecting children online.
