On the occasion of the annual celebration of World Photography Day on 19 August, we would like to take this opportunity to show you some photos of Distrito Telefónica, our corporate headquarters.
With these photos we are going to show you curiosities about the presence of works of art by renowned sculptors or about the existence of different types of animals and vegetation in this environment in the north of the city of Madrid.
Art in the Telefónica District
Eduardo Chillida in the Telefónica District
Perhaps not many people know this, but Eduardo Chillida, who like Telefónica was born in 1924, has one of his works in the Telefónica District gardens.
Specifically, it is the “Omar Khayyam IV Table”, a sculpture from 1983 with which the Basque sculptor pays tribute to the Persian poet, mathematician and astronomer Omar Khayyam, famous both for his philosophical reflections and for his quatrains.
Jaume Plensa in Telefónica District
Coinciding with Telefónica’s Centenary, the corporate headquarters received ‘Iris’, by Jaume Plensa, a sculpture that symbolises the power of communication and human connection.
A monumental sculpture weighing four tons and six metres high with a woman’s face built from letters and symbols of eight different alphabets that synthesises the capacity for communication in diversity.
Nature in the Telefónica District
Trees, bushes, wild flowers and different animals such as reptiles, birds, insects and mammals (not only bipeds) demonstrate the varied biodiversity of the Telefónica District.
Here is a selection of some photographs that illustrate this variety at our headquarters:
