Alicia Rivas

How long have you been with Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?

I have been working at Telefónica since 1999, 24 years ago next November. I have worked in many areas of the company and my overall assessment is good.

Subscribe to Telefónica’s blog and find out before anyone else.

Is there any project at Telefónica that you are particularly satisfied with or proud of?

The arrival of fibre to rural areas, because I think it has brought about a radical change in the way we work today.

Many companies and people can move to rural areas and have a great quality of life without having to live with the burden and pollution of the big cities, and today that is priceless.

What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society since its creation?

A lot of communication, since the introduction of the telephone into society opened up the great era of communications. Who would have imagined that you could talk to another person in the other corner of the world just by picking up a handset.

Where do you see Telefonica in the future?

I suppose Telefónica will have reinvented itself once again and will continue to be one of the most important companies in Spain.

Could you live without a mobile phone?

Nowadays, even if you want to, it’s impossible to live without a mobile phone, everything is designed to keep us hooked to the phone all day long.

Even so, I like to put the phone aside and return to the analogue world often, whether it’s reading paper books, going for a walk or simply doing sport.

Help us solve one of humanity’s great enigmas: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?

Without onion. Not only because onion doesn’t agree with me, but because a good omelette needs nothing more than potatoes and eggs.

Any personal project you would like to highlight?

Well yes, for the last 14 years I’ve been running a project called La Recomendadora where I tell my travel experiences, recommending and helping other travellers what to see in a certain place, what to eat, what route to take… and as I live in Madrid there is a large section of the website dedicated exclusively to this beautiful city, so that both tourists and locals have valuable and contrasted information at hand, as well as practical information about what to do and how to get the most out of Madrid.
