How long have you been with Telefónica and what is your assessment of your time here?

I joined Telefónica in April 1999, so I’m going on 25 years. My assessment is extremely positive because during this time I have had the opportunity to contribute to several companies in the group, in different areas and in different functions. This is one of the great advantages of Telefónica: there are many opportunities to develop.

Is there any project at Telefónica that you feel particularly satisfied with or proud of?

It is difficult to choose because I have been lucky enough to team up with great colleagues in very unique projects, but if I were to take a quick look I would say: TdE’s first environmental report in 2000, the exit of GSM in 2003 and TV in 2006, both in Telefónica Chile, back to TdE the Revenue Assurance project in 2010 and 2018, and now that I have just joined Telefónica Tech I will no doubt continue with new and interesting projects in Cloud, Cyber and IoT.

What do you think Telefónica has contributed to society?

Our company’s contribution to society is immense. Leaving aside the obvious related to the development of communications and the use of technology, the Foundation’s website sums it up very well. Telefónica contributes to employability, education, social action, dissemination, culture, art, environmental protection… I recommend you go to the Fundación Telefónica website in the dissemination section to read some of the many publications and books it has. In particular, the book on the History of Telefónica: 1924-1975 is a clear example, in which you can see what pioneers those who came before us were and thanks to them we continue to contribute to the societies in which we operate as we are about to celebrate our first 100 years. Every “telefónico” is proud to be or to have been part of this company.

Where do you see Telefónica in the future?

Our mission clearly states “to make our world more human, connecting people’s lives”. To do this, we have to keep on leading the way, adapting to ever-changing environments and continuing to innovate. History has shown us that we have had to evolve, reinvent ourselves, reinterpret ourselves from time to time, and we will have to continue to do so in the future.

Could you live without a mobile phone?

Yes, of course, that’s what I do at weekends. In my case, the mobile phone is mainly a work tool. At weekends you have to disconnect as it is not only necessary, it is healthy.

Help us solve one of humanity’s great enigmas: the potato omelette… With onion or without onion?

Well, although we are in a technological company, the omelette cannot be thought of in binary code “either 0 or 1”. There are many nuances and the important thing about the omelette is to share it with colleagues, with friends, with the family… and there the enigma is better clarified by sharing a few drinks and a few laughs.
