Telefónica Public Policy & Telefónica España Regulatory teams
We are proud to announce the launch of a new microsite about Regulatory Economics at Telefónica’s corporate webpage.
It is well known that telecommunication markets are subject to regulation of different degrees in all the countries in which Telefónica operates. Telefónica regularly cooperates with policy makers and authorities during the debate of their regulatory proposals. However, in our view many of the economic approaches used by competition and regulation authorities are obsolete and may lead to mistakes. Very often, this causes serious undesired consequences, not just for Telefónica but mainly for the welfare of ordinary citizens.
Because of this and in line with Telefónica’s motto “BE MORE”, we think necessary to launch and promote the academic debate about the right economic approach to regulation. We realize that this is an ambitious objective. The goal of the site we are launching now is more modest: to present the contribution of Telefónica’s experts to the academic debate on the economics of regulation.
The papers that can be found here do not state Telefónica’s position regarding any specific rulemaking proposal. They are just an effort by Telefónica to provide scientific economic analysis that may cast light on a specific issue. As such, they are open to discussion for the public in general, and especially for scholars interested in regulatory issues.
Please, do have a look at the new microsite and let us know your thoughts to feed the debate!
