Rafael Alberto Méndez-Romero, Ph.D.

Dean of the School of Engineering, Science and Technology at the Universidad del Rosario de Colombia

    Rafael Alberto Méndez-Romero, Ph.D. obtained his undergraduate degree in Mathematics, a Specialisation in Applied Mathematics, a Master's degree in Mathematical and Computational Modelling and a Ph.D. in Didactics of Experimental, Social and Mathematical Sciences. In both his master's and doctoral degrees, he obtained the extraordinary prize for excellence and, in the latter, he was unanimously awarded the highest distinction Suma Cum Laude. He has been a professor at several universities in Colombia. In 2016 he began his career at the Universidad del Rosario and in 2017, he was appointed Distinguished Professor of this School. During his time at the Department of Mathematics, before the creation of the School of Engineering, Science and Technology, he was Coordinator of the Mathematics Service, the 4.0 Service and the recently created Applied Mathematics and Computer Science programme. In 2020, he was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award in the category Inspirational Teacher. In the same year, he received the position of Vice Provost for Academic Affairs for the whole university. He is currently the Dean of the School of Engineering, Science and Technology at the Universidad del Rosario and his research interests focus on pedagogical innovation, mathematics education, social justice in education and educational technology
